9.  What size mat or cardstock is needed?
Products now have the size mat required in the product description.
We also have a complete list of all box and lid templates.

10.  What do the templates look like before boxes are assembled?
There are several box templates used so they would fit on a 12×12 mat (unless specified larger).  Each Box Template will list the layout that what used to create it under the “Product Description” on the product page.  An example of each layout is displayed on the Basic Assembly Instruction page.

11.  How can I save money?
A BOX THAT IS 1X4X1 WILL LOOK THE SAME AS A 4X1X1 BOX
(Both have a side that is 1 inch wide, both have a side that is 4 inches wide, and both are 1 inch high.)
Knowing this will save you from purchasing duplicate templates.
There are a few EXCEPTIONS:
1.  Angled boxes with a cut out front.
2.  If you want your cardstock pattern displayed upright and continuous around 3 sides on a 2 piece box layout.  (See Basic Assembly Instructions for pictures)

12.  What if I can’t see the dotted guide lines after the template is cut?
Depending on the pattern and the thickness of your cardstock the dotted lines may be hard to see after the template is cut. There are two options that should help.
1. The dotted lines are easier to see from the back of the cardstock, so just turn it over and crease along all the dotted lines. Then turn the template back over and fold as normal before assembling.
2. You can do a “double cut” in your program which will make the lines deeper.

13.  Is there a way to create score lines instead of dotted cut lines? Click a link below for more information.

14.  What happens if I resize a box or lid?
All dimensions will change.  Boxes were made to stack evenly, so resizing will create a nesting effect.  Each width and the height will change.
You may resize one smaller and one larger to stack inside each other.

15.  Why won’t my lid fit?
1.  Make sure tabs Do Not overlap past the folds when assembling lids.  (This will make the lid smaller.)
2.  These files are designed for regular cardstock.  If you use extra heavy cardstock or chipboard, you will need to slightly re-size the lid larger. (Usually adding .063 to the width and height will be enough.)

16.  What if I need a size or a template layout not listed?
Please read How to Request a Custom Size SVG Box Template

17.  What if my template is the wrong one or something is wrong with the file?
Please use the Contact Form or send an email to support@svgboxcuts.com, along with the email you used when you placed the order.  We will be happy to send you a corrected file.
Please make sure our files work with your program by downloading the FREE templates for a 2x2x1 base and lid, as returns are not allowed due to the nature of the product.

18.  What programs will open the SVG Box Templates?
Please Click Here to see a list of digital cutting programs and tips for using these programs with our templates.
On occasion a template will not work properly in one of these programs.  If this happens, email us at support@svgboxcuts.com or use our Contact Form, and we will reformat the template and send you a new one.

19.  Are other formats available?
Yes, but at the moment they are only available upon request.
Studio v2 or v3 for Silhouette Basic
FCM for Brothers’ Canvas Workspace
PDF or PNG for printing and hand cutting. (Please check the paper size required for the template. )

  • If you are wanting to print a template as a picture or PDF, you will need to request your order be converted to PNG or PDF. Some files require 12×12 paper.  Unless you have a 12×12 printer (wide format printer) you will need templates that fit on 8.5×11 paper.
  • However, if you have a program that can open a SVG template, where you are able to move around the pieces, you may be able to separate the template pieces, and print the template without having it converted to PNG or PDF. You will still need templates that fit 8.5×11 paper unless you have a wide format printer.
  • For example a 1 piece template that fits 8.5×11 paper will print on 8.5×11 paper. A 2 piece template that fits 8.5×11 paper will separate so it can cut on 8.5×11 paper, but it may not print together and fit 8.5×11 paper.
  • If you do not have the ability to separate a template to print each piece, I recommend you send me an email to find out if your template will print completely prior to purchasing.

Send an email to support@svgboxcuts.com or use our Contact Form to request additional information or to have your order changed to a new format FREE of charge.

20.  What if the 3D box is not the size specified?
Some programs do not import SVG’s the same size they were created.  Please click here for the current list of digital cutting programs with tips about sizing issues.
We now have an online chart that lists all of the template widths. If your program does not import SVG files “true to size,” you may enter the width (with the aspect ratio locked) in your program. Be sure all pieces of the template are selected / grouped before resizing, and it should adjust the template to the correct size.

21.  What kind of paper can I use?
Templates will work with any paper.  Heavier paper will work better for sturdier boxes.  However, extremely heavy cardboard or chipboard might need the lid slightly resized larger to allow for the extra thickness.
Read this tip for an idea to make your box sturdier if you would like to use thin paper.
If you would like to use heavy cardboard read our post “How to Make SVG Box Templates Easier to Fold.”

22.  Do I use tape or glue?
Glue will allow you to move the tabs easily if not placed correctly.  Two sided tape will allow the boxes to be assembled more quickly. I like to use both.  I put tape along the middle of the tabs and glue around the edges.  The tape holds the glue in place while it is drying and the glue holds the edges closer together.
