Resize SVG Index Divider Templates for SVG Boxes

This tutorial will give a few tips about how to resize our SVG Index Divider Templates to use with any of our SVG Boxes. It will cover Silhouette Studio, Cricut Design Space, Brother’s Canvas Workspace and Sure Cuts A Lot.

1. Ungroup the templates.
Right click your mouse, and select ungroup.

Silhouette ungroup SVG Index Divider Templates

2. Select one SVG Index Divider to resize.
There are a couple options for resizing the SVG Index Dividers

Option A – Use the Dimension Menu
This is the easiest and most accurate when you know the size you need.

Make sure you unlock the “keep dimension proportional” OR uncheck the “maintain aspect ratio,” so you do not accidentally change the other measurement.

(Suggested dimension if you are wanting to resize the SVG Index Dividers included with some of the sets so the tabs will be above the box:
Start by adding 1/2 inch (.5) to your height dimension, and press enter. )

To resize the WIDTH of your SVG Index Divider templates to fit inside a SVG box that was not part of a set:
Subtract 1/8 (.125) an inch from the width for a tight fit.
Subtract 1/4 (.25) an inch from the width for more flexibility.

To resize the HEIGHT of your SVG Index Divider templates to fit a SVG box that was not part of a set:
– To fit flush with the top of the box so a lid fits over the box; set the height the exact same as your SVG box height.
– To stick above the box top; start by adding 1/4 (.25) an inch or 1/2 (.5) and inch to the height dimension of your SVG box until you find your desired look.

Option B – Use the drag boxes or arrows
Select one SVG Index Divider
Click on the arrow or box in the bottom center and drag the bottom line down to your desired height.
I like to align the top of the index divider to a main line on the grid, so I can see how large the tab will appear.

To make this easier some programs have a “Snap To Grid” feature.

Silhouette Studio:
Click on the View Menu – Check Grid and check Snap To Grid
(Notice how in Silhouette it may not actually snap to the grid lines.)

Cricut Design Space – They do not have this feature yet.

Brother’s Canvas Workspace:
Select the Artboard Menu from the right
Check Show Mat Image, Show Grid, and Snap to Grid
Set your Grid spacing depending on the increments you want to resize your Index Divider. (by 1/4 an inch, a 1/2, etc.)

Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL):
Click on the View Menu – Grid – check “Show Grid”
Click the View Menu again – Snap to – check the option you prefer for the grid lines it will snap to.

3. Resize the other three templates.
Once you find your desired size for the first SVG Index Divider just type those same dimensions in the Dimension Menu for the other three.

** Please notice resizing the SVG Index Divider Templates will alter the look of the tab at the top of the dividers.

Hope you enjoy the many uses for these SVG Index Dividers!
